Top Tech For Nurses

Contrary to the impression perpetuated by most nursing agencies (you know, with their insistence on paper timesheets and ye olde fax machine) it’s 2018, people - there’s a whole world of technology out there.

And the world of healthcare professionals is particularly well-served by websites, apps and software to help make your working life and enjoying downtime a little bit easier.

So hold onto your hats and stand by for our top five techy tools for nurses.

  1. MedTimer, the heart and respiratory rate tracker for healthcare professionals. Remove the need to count in your head and simply tap the screen every time you hear a beat or a breath. Simple and accurate with no clock-watching or calculations. What’s not to like?

  2. There are tonnes of fitness trackers and pedometer-stype apps out there, but which is the best if you’re trying to track your activity levels over a busy - or not so busy - shift? We’re fans of Stepz - it’s super accurate, doesn’t require GPS and so uses less battery and you don’t even need to check into the app to see your progress - the app icon badge displays your up-to-date step count. On Android? Accupedo is another great option and will give you an extra motivation boost via regular reminders to get up and move around.

  3. Whether you’ve just started out on the self-employed journey or you’re a seasoned veteran, whether full-time or part-time, picking up bank or (dare we use the dreaded ‘a’ word?) agency shifts, you could benefit from MoneyHub: the app which allows you to see all of your finances in one place, track your spending habits and connect with professionals for advice. You can set up ‘Nudges’ to make sure payments are made on time, receive tips on how to spend and save better and set spending goals while tracking your progress. Money magic for £1.49 a month.

  4. Medscape almost goes without saying, but it’s such a valuable tool we had to include it. It’s the global newspaper of the healthcare world, with news, perspectives, details of the latest clinical trials and much, much more. There’s a dedicated nurses section and plenty of thoughtful comment from the healthcare professional’s viewpoint alongside all of the science. Essential reading for everyone working in a healthcare setting.

  5. Nightingale - the online marketplace which matches talented and experienced healthcare professionals to service providers and shifts without the need for expensive recruitment agencies. We remove the middle man, we’re simple and easy to use, totally transparent and we cut costs for clients (up to 40% on their temporary workforce costs), while at the same time empowering healthcare professionals to choose their shifts and earn up to 20% more than working for an agency.
